Our durable colorful Bolga baskets with a leather handle are handwoven in Ghana from thick, tough elephant grass that will remain functional and beautiful for years. Elephant grass is grown primarily in Southern Ghana but the weavers are in the Northern region of Bolgatanga. These artisans transform this tough elephant grass into iconic baskets by starting to weave a small woven circle and expand to reveal our beautiful authentic Bolga baskets.
The weaving of Bolga Baskets in Ghana has been a traditional skill passed on for many generations. The basket weavers and their familes rely on the sale of these handcrafted baskets to supplement their income. This is a wonderful fair trade gift!
These baskets can be reshaped by immersing the basket in cold water. Just wet the basket, shape by hand and let dry indoor away from the sun. Do not get water on the leather handle.
